We offer the most choices of kayaking lessons in West Michigan. Choose a class from the following list then check the 2010 Class Schedule for dates and times. You may reserve a place in our classes by calling Jon at 616-460-0540 then sending us a completed Registration Form along with payment by mail.
Quickstart Your Kayaking
Perfect for recreational kayak owner or beginner paddlers!
Quickstart is a three-hour introduction to kayaking.
Students are presented with information regarding kayak
safety,
basic paddling skills and simple rescues. This course will
let
you maximum the fun factor and minimize poor decision making every time
you get into a kayak. This class is taught in Lowell, just 13
miles east of Grand Rapids. Ages 14+

Basics of Kayaking
Wait before you buy a rec boat!! This six-hour
lesson,
split into two sessions, focuses on the advantages that day
touring and sea kayaks
offer.
You'll be introduced to more gear, perform wet exits,
participate
in basic rescues, and spend more time developing boat handling skills.
This is a great course for anyone planning to paddle more
than
100 yards from shore or longer distances. Held in
Lowell,
just 13 miles east of Grand Rapids. Ages 14+

Advanced
Strokes and Rescues
For the more advanced kayaker looking to dial
in their skills, this class is also a great review and refresher course
for those
who have
been through a Basics course! Use it as a tune up proir to a
trip
or to add a few new skills to your personal paddling kit. The
course is 3 hours and held on calm, inland water to maximize learning.
Day touring or sea kayaks with spray skirts required.
Held in Lowell, just 13 miles east of Grand Rapids.

Open Water Coastal KayakingTake your learning to the big lake. This 6+ hour course introduces advanced strokes, rescues, towing, communication and navigation along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Specific material will be dictated by the weather conditions on the day of the class but a main goal of this program is to get students at least 1/4 mile from shore. Location determined the week of class based on weather. Ages 14+
Cost: $100 per person (2 student minimum required)

Adventure’s
Kid’s Camp
Looking for a way to get your kids outside
this summer? Have them
attend our multi-day kids
only
kayaking program! We’ll meet for three
mornings in a row and teach your children all the really fun things
they can do in a kayak. Day one starts with learning all
about
kayaks and the basic skills needed to have fun and be safe.
Day
two is all about playing in our kayaks,
with relays, skill tests, and lots of ways to get wet. The third day
brings it all together with a 2 hour paddle down the Flat River. Class
size
of 3-4 persons. Ages 10-13 yrs old.
Cost: $130 (includes boats and
accessories) 4 student maximum
