ADVENTURES ON THE GRAND, LLC is based in Lowell, MI where the Grand River and Flat River meet. We are a fully insured outfitter focused on providing safe and enjoyable kayaking classes and paddling trips utilizing the wonderful resources and waters found in the Grand Rapids, MI area.

OUR PROGRAMS
Our kayak classes and trips are led by certified
American
Canoe
Association instructors. Beginner kayak courses are taught on
calm
inland waters to maximize skill building. Students should
provide
drinking water, glasses retention,
sunscreen, and appropriate dress for all programs. While we
don’t hold programs in the event of
severe weather (high winds or lightning) we do proceed in the event of
rain. Payment required
prior to the start of the program and by cash or check only please.
ABOUT
YOUR INSTRUCTORS
Jon Holmes
is our lead instructor. Jon is an American Canoe Association certified
Open Water Instructor with six years of teaching the formal elements
of Coastal Kayaking. With over 16 years of outdoor retail
experience at Bill and Pauls Sporthaus,
Jon knows that understanding your gear and having some basic
skills allows for richer experiences in the
outdoors. In 2009 Jon became the first sea kayaker to
replicate
the 1790 Hugh Heward Expedition crossing of Michigan from Lake St.
Clair to Chicago via the Huron and Grand Rivers. He enjoys
enhancing his
programs by
drawing upon his degree in fishery sciences at Michigan State
University.
Rusty McBride is an inspiring instuctor who brings a passion for kayaking and fitness paddling to all his classes. Rusty earned his ACA certification in 2006 and has literally thousands of paddling miles to draw upon for experience.
Associate Instructors We have a network of talented, experienced intstructors who bring our vision and passion when called upon to teach, guide or assist us throughout the season.
